{Master Bedroom: Part 2}

I almost titled this post {Sad Day: Part 2} but since I feel like this blog has been super "Debbie Downer " lately I opted for something a little more exciting.
However- be warned! I named the post "Part 2" because of what happened over the last few days. You could say it has been pretty gloomy over here!!

I might have cried over a bedspread.
OK. I might have all out bawled.

Here is the story:
I actually loved the way my master bedroom looked when I first decorated it in 2012! I wrote all about it here. I liked the bedding, the rug, the painted stripes, the whole she-bang, but the bedding was getting worn and over time it felt very cave like… I needed light.
BEFORE

So in December I started looking for a new bedspread. I wanted change and something fresh and bright. I thought I'd do a quick-little redo on a budget of only $100 for the ENTIRE thing! I wanted to swap out a few things; paint, curtains, art, bedding, rug. No big deal right? I knew I had to find the right bedding first to start the project. The only thing I knew going into it was that I wanted to paint the room white- yes, white. The walls were brown (like every other room used to be in this house!) but I had a gallon of fresh "Antique White" paint that I could use and knew that would cost me $0 to paint the entire space. Besides that I didn't know what direction I would go until I found the bedding. (Tip: It is easiest to find accents/paint colors once you have found your bedding, better to match paint to bedding than the bedding to the paint! ) Anyway, I searched and searched. I found this brown and white chevron bedding at zulily.com for a great price- I think it was $60 for a queen. I ordered it without much thought and waited, the best part was it only took about a week and it arrived!

PART 1:
I loved it! I loved that the brown wasn't so brown, it was more of a brown/rust. I also loved how well my leopard pillows blended with it. It was great! Blah blah blah.

Then Leighton got sick this past week and fell asleep on my bed… and woke up puking.her.guts.out.
Yes.
All over my brand new bedding!
And I won't give you the dirty details on the purple Gatorade and bright pink medicine that came spilling out of her tiny body!
E.V.E.R.Y.W.H.E.R.E.
Insert tears here.

I came rushing in the room and my heart sank immediately. I took a deep breath and cleaned her up first. I got her settled and then threw the bedspread in the wash.
I prayed.
Once the washer was done I pulled the bedspread out to find this…
This picture really doesn't do it justice. It was horrific! (Im not being dramatic, it really did!)
The color bled everywhere. It looked awful, there was also a great big purple stain that I couldn't get out.
At this point I was so upset!
(I know it is just a bedspread- but it was a brand new bedspread that I really liked!)
I texted Randall: "Leighton puked all over our bedspread- it's ruined- and purple. I might be a crying mess."
He texted back: "It's not a big deal. It's just bedding."
He was right.
I was still upset.
It took me a few days to accept the fact that it was ruined. I even tired calling the company I bought it from and they informed me that it was not machine washable and on the tag is said to "Dryclean only." Sorry.
Boo.
Lesson learned.

Today I put on my big girl panties and threw it out. We made a trip to Target to see what we could find. I immediately was drawn to this comforter. I liked the sashing (the way the fabric gathers) and I liked that it was off white and grey- plus it was on sale for $42 (for a King!) I bought it along with some royal blue sheets and headed home to put it all together.
PART 2:

It's growing on me. I like how the blue sheets tie in my cute pom-pom trim on the white curtains, art,  and also my fun accent chair. (Kind of like I planned it?!)
It's subtle and very clean looking- that is what I was going for.

I feel much better now that it is all put back together.
I do have a few more things to do before I say this room is done.
Hint: Those wide stripes will be changing!

I also have some new rules:
No EATING in my bed.
No SICK KIDS in my bed.
No PUKING in my bed.

And I made sure that this bedspread was in fact machine washable!! (And returnable if anything disasterous happened to it!) Part 2 of this quick little redo wouldn't have happened if I would have thought about that in the first place!

Moral of the story: Don't cry over stained bedding- just throw them out and buy a new set.
