Growing up we always celebrated the Bunny/Egg/Spring part or Easter on Saturday. Then the following Sunday we celebrated Easter for it's true meaning, Christ. We have carried on this tradition with our little family and really feel like it has helped us teach our kids the importance of this day.
Lately I've been feeling like Holidays now a days are so overdone! There is to much emphasis on gifts and "theme parties!" I get a little overwhelmed with it all. Recently I sat down with The Man and told him how I was feeling- he agreed. Our kids are beginning to think that every Holiday is suppose to be a huge celebration that usually lasts all month long! I really don't feel like this is necessary. I do think it is ok to celebrate these Holidays, don't get me wrong, but one day is usually enough!!
Anyway- rant over.
This Easter weekend was suppose to be pretty low key. We decided a few weeks ago that we were not going to make a huge deal of the whole "bunny and eggs" part. Instead we would do a simple basket, go to one egg hunt, then let the kids fly kites. That was the plan- although those things did happen, we also ended up doing much more than we originally had intended on! (Surprise!)
The kids woke up to a little treat from the Easter bunny- a spring outfit and kites for all three. (And a sucker- this was their favorite part!) I also bought them this table and chairs for the playroom- it came a little earlier than expected so we put it together and said it was from the Easter Bunny to, they didn't hardly even notice it!!
We got the kids dressed and ready and headed to the Menan Easter Egg Hunt, our favorite.
My Aunt LeeAnn and cousins, Sara and Beth, surprised us and came up for the weekend. My kids were thrilled and we love having them around! They always make things so much more exciting (and they spoil my kids rotten!)
Leighton didn't do any hunting- I did get out there and snatch a few treats for her though! She was terrified of the guy who was dressed as the Easter Bunny, I don't blame her- he was scary!
At one point the Bunny came over to us to say Hello to Leighton, she was a little surprised and ended up punching the Bunny in the face- lovely. Then she busted out bawling! It was actually very funny, she decked him pretty good!! (She showed him for sneaking up on her!!)
Then this was the reason we drove to Ririe for lunch…
Yes! Those are huge- but it was delicious!! We didn't eat anything else for the rest of the day, I feel sick just thinking about all that food! It's a little dive Pizza place- called Stoplight Pizza and they have the best cheese sticks! They also have the biggest pizza this side of the Mississippi- the owner told us that! (Next time we will just go with the 16', its plenty big!!) Once we were fed and ready to go we drove up the road a little ways and let the kids run and fly their Easter kites. The weather was absolutely perfect. The wind was really low and the sun was shining, it was beautiful.
Then we ended up in Rexburg at Grandma Kunz's for a pretty amazing Egg hunt...
… and egg dying. (I will say I hate this tradition! I hate the mess, the waste of perfectly good eggs, and seriously- what is the reason behind this?!!!) Call me ornery?! But, my kids loved it and Grandma has more patience than me!
After some down time The Man and Grandpa Kunz took the kids out to the arena to ride the horses. I was pretty proud of the girls for being so brave, usually they are so nervous. They are getting pretty good! Carmen and Emmy rode the longest and didn't want to get off- do you blame them? Look at that sunset!
I helped the ladies make some quick and easy wreaths for their homes and Grandma taught Mack how to crochet- he has been making chains ever since! He is such a patient little man and loves to create things, he really catches on quick to things like this.
It was a beautiful day.
We came home exhausted.
And I felt like we had done way-to-much! But, I guess as long as these kids are having a great time and they are happy- then I'm happy. I was just glad to get to be with family for the entire day.
As soon as we were home we all ended up crashing!
