{Spring Break 2014}

For those who asked, the paint color in the Basement is from Scotty's TrueValue, Easy-care paint, called Paving Stone- in Satin sheen. I've really loved the color- not to blue and not to grey! It's a warm color and has really helped lighten the space. I plan on painting the new toy room area the same color.

As for other things, we just finished with a few days out of school for Spring Break- however, as most of you already know… it does in no way feel like spring! It managed to snow a whopping 9 inches on Sunday and really took be by complete surprise! I might have stared out the window for a good 2 minutes in shock! We still have a little snow left on the ground, but I'm hoping that that was our last hoorah!! (Keep dreaming right?!)

 Leighton doing a little pouting- it happens often around here.

We kept it pretty low key over the vacation. The kids spend most of their time here at home playing together and whining. I thought it would be fun to go on a hike or picnic or just play outside, but it was cold- and windy. So we stayed inside pretty much the whole time. We did go visit the Grandparents and cousins a little, but basically we just stayed around home. Mack was pretty disappointed- I was to. On the first day (Thursday) I took the kids to town to let them pick out a activity for the break- big mistake! I should have went alone and brought them home something, they would have been much happier. But instead we stood in the toy and craft isles of Walmart for a hour fighting/whining over what they wanted. I was hoping for something that would actually entertain them- that wasn't a toy, like maybe Lego's or a craft or something? No. They wouldn't have it. It was a battle between dolls and barbies, we have enough of those (And Mack couldn't decide on anything.)  So in the end I said we were going home with nothing. (I did end up buying coloring books- it's not like we don't have a million already- and they seemed ok with the compromise.) Once we got home they colored for a total of 3 minutes… and were done.
Fail.

I feel like my kids have to be entertained 24/7. I know there are so many moms out there that do get down and play and entertain their kids all day long. I'm not that mom.

I dont mind doing activities or crafts once in a while, but I'm not about to do it everyday- all day. I think imagination is important and that kids need to play- without the TV or electronics. Carmen is pretty good about playing with dolls, Leighton will play with just about anything, but Mack won't. He struggles when it comes to playing with toys. Nothing really excites him. He does like to dress up but then he just runs around yelling and singing and driving me bonkers! But most of the time he is standing in front of me waiting for me to tell him what to do next… drives.me.crazy!! I'm so thankful for school! So is he, he was excited Monday night because he said he couldn't wait to go back to school! He thrives with a routine.

Mack does love spending time with his cousins, especially now that he finally has another Boy to play with! Mr. Right a.k.a. Mr. Tommy makes me even consider trying for another boy again! (In a few years.)

Anyway, pretty much our Spring Break was lame. The kids watched Frozen a lot, played dress up, and tired to keep themselves entertained. Me, I was just here- with them.  It's ok, we aren't complaining, I'm sure this summer will make up for it. It actually feels good to be home and not feel pressure to always be on the go.

In positive news I was really thankful for the Internet and the opportunity to watch the first General Conference Womens Conference online Saturday Morning- I needed it.

I agree- we really do need eachother.

I can sympathize with this post on oh so many levels. Paige is the same way, and even if I do try to be super mom and play with her she will play with something for 2 whole minutes. I will do a craft and she does it for like 5 minutes and wants something else. I'm always at a loss as to what to do besides TV. She loves to be outside but that seems to be impossible all winter and spring long. Sigh. Come on summer!

Hey we watched Frozen twice in a row today. Talk about awesome mom-skills right here! My kids LOVE to craft and do crap with scissors, glue, beads, etc... but then leave a HUGE mess and then it's bawling drama to get them to clean it up - so it makes me want to say, "Um no crafts because then I'm picking up beads all over the house!"
This weather is definitely killing us too -the kids just want to go outside and play SO bad! C'mon summer!!
