If your following the progress of our little Toy Room Project then you have already seen the first and second posts about it… if not, you can read all about what we have done so far here:
Here is a panoramic pic of the room as of now!
This past weekend we really got down to buisness! The Man was all sorts of on fire when it came to getting this room done! I had some Church responsibilities I had to take care of that morning, so by the time I got home the room was primed and he was already painting the ceiling!! I was so excited to get some color on the wall! (And the fact that I didn't have to do any priming was a pretty great feeling!) We were able to finish all the priming and painting in about 2 hours. We also had Jordan come back and wrap up the electrical, The Man hung the door and some cabinets, and after all that I even managed to get it cleaned up in time to enjoy a night of pizza and a movie with the kids.
We. were. exhausted!!
But now we are so excited to get the flooring put down and trim put up! Then we might be able to call the "construction" phase D.O.N.E!
Here is some terrible pictures I took during the day with my iPhone! I wish now I would have busted out my camera- I was feeling rushed! You get the idea…
I let The Man have the fun task of painting the ceiling… I was a great cheerleader! He loves when I take pictures of him while he is working!
As far as paint goes I continued the same color into this room that is in the rest of our family room. I used True Value: Easy Care, Paving Stone, satin sheen. The trim and ceiling are Pure White, satin sheen as well. Have I told you how much I LOVE True Value, EasyCare paint? Well- I love it. (They don't pay me to say that!)
And, also, I'll let you in on one of my favorite tips for painting!!
I line my paint trays with tin foil! When it's time to clean up I simply wrap the roller with tin foil, pull it off, then scrunch all the foil together in a ball- clean up done!
(And its also awesome if you need to change colors- no mess at all.)
Freakin genius if you ask me!! ;)
However, see that can of Valspar paint? We ran out of ceiling paint (it took over a gallon) and I had this can on hand, it ended up matching perfect- good thing I'm a bit of a paint hoarder!
This door was the original door that led into the storage room, we just moved it to the back of the room- it now leads back into the storage room! (It might have taken The Man several hours to get this to hang and swing tight- a few choice words might have been said in the process!! Don't tell him you know!)
Jordan (our electrical guy) took a hour just trying to get this light together- it was not fun. I did find it at Lowe's for about $20! Now that it is put together and hung I do like it… although at first I did not! The room is still pretty dark considering this single bulb is the only thing lighting the room, I'm now on the hunt for a lamp! (These pictures were taken late in the day- the room is really not THAT dark!!)
We were blessed on getting these cabinets!
About a year ago my Mother-in-Law did a remodel of her kitchen, she held on to the cabinets that she replaced but no longer needed them! We were so excited to be able to make a few fit into our space. These babies are hung and already filled with all our DVD's! I love how big they are and the storage that they add!
After that I got busy cleaning up all the mess! The Man went and grabbed some pizza and a movie and we all vegged for the rest of the night. We might have went to bed at about 8pm the night!!
This little monkey was all sorts of help making drill sounds and pretending to be "bwilwding tings!" (Building things!) And, pants might be a little overrated in our house!! I dont like to wear them either!!
Now look at that To-Do list!! How exciting!
We did decide to go ahead with laminate wood flooring. We have the wood in the room right this minute "climate-izing" (helps prevent expansion, I might have made up that word!) and we are planning on starting installation tomorrow!
I'm hoping that this weekend we will get everything put in its place and call this job Finished!
(Well, for now!)
