Little Miss Leighton has had a rough couple weeks.
She NEEDS her sleep- or else she is a serious beast! (That may or may not be her nickname!)
You know that saying, "Although she is little, she is fierce!" This totally fits this little Misses personality. When she is happy- she is hilarious! But when she is tired- watch out!!
About 6 months ago we converted her crib into a toddler bed, thinking she would love it! We were wrong! She had a hard time staying in bed- especially at nap time. Night time seemed to be fine so we lived without naps for a while, but it got to the point where I was about to loose my mind by 3:00pm- due to whining and crying and tantrums! She is the child that MUST have a nap to function.
So finally after a few weeks of serious torture I caved and went and bought her a twin mattress.
Here is a interesting fact I bet you did not know:
- Walmart sells twin mattresses for $99.
- They come in a box. Yes! A small box, on wheels!
You can bet I was surprised when I found a twin sized mattress in a small box on the shelf at Walmart! If there wouldn't have been a sample on display I would have never believed it! The box was about 1ft x 3ft long and on wheels! It wasn't very heavy either.
I read the info on the box like 10 times making sure I was in deed getting a twin sized mattress- and not some super weird shaped dog bed!! But since it was from Walmart and I knew I could return it if it didn't work I figured it was worth a shot! I loaded it up and brought it home.
When The Man saw the box he had the same response as me! He was like, "There is no way that is a twin sized bed! It must be made of foam or something?" Nope- its a real box springs, 6 inch thick mattress!
I couldn't wait to get it open. We took it inside Leighton's room to open it, the mattress was wrapped in this tight plastic stuff, printed on the plastic it read "Cut with a knife, stand clear!" I was so excited!! We cut it and stood back. Sure enough the thing POPPED out and started making all these loud POPPING sounds! (The springs were popping open) Then it sprung into the shape of a twin mattress! The girls immediately started jumping on it! Surprisingly enough the thing is very comfortable!
We spent the first week getting used to the new bed and she has adjusted really well. Leighton thinks she is pretty big stuff and is back into the swing of nap time! Thank heavens! She usually will start to cry as I lay her down, but after only a few seconds she rolls over and goes right to bed. It really has been a HUGE lifesaver!
It was a little bittersweet putting the crib back into storage- we have used that thing for the past 7 years! Although it is nice to be out of the baby stage of life, it is a little sad at the same time. I am in no way ready for another baby- but I am excited to be able to do things with these kids that don't require diapers and diaper bags, strollers and bottles. It feels really freeing to be able to just go and do things without the thought of bringing along all those baby necessities!
