I have this weird love for old wooden chairs.
I have a weird love for anything old really! (Ok- not anything- mainly just furniture!)
I have a hard time saying "No" to them, especially when I see them at garage sales, thrift stores, online, or even on the side of the road- you name it! They always seem to come home with me!
Off the top of my head I can count 10 in and outside of my home and I love all of them.
I think its in my blood.
I remember going to my Aunt Karleen's home several years ago and admiring all of her cool old chairs. She told me that she "accidentally collected them" over the years! She laughed and said that they were her weakness and that her family thought she was crazy. I didn't really understand it then, but I do now. This past summer I went to my Aunt Jeanne's and Aunt Marlys's homes and admired their collections of old chairs as well. (They are my all my dad's sisters.) I think its really interesting how we all have this same little obsession collection.
A few weeks ago I saw this old thing online for $10. I probably could have talked her down but I loved everything about it and wanted it badly! So we went to town and picked her right up.
Carmen claimed it right away, begging me to let her have a chair of her own in her room. Since every other room in my house has a little accent chair- or two- I didn't object.
I asked her what color we should paint it- of course she said pink. Then we went to the fabric store to pick a fun print for the seat. I was REALLY hoping for a fun leopard print. (I mean come on light pink, gold, and leopard? Im obsessed.) But she didn't like that idea, she went straight to this teal geometric print and was done. I tried to convince her into a few other choices- but her mind was made up. I didn't hate it, however, I wasn't to sure.
We came home and I redid the whole thing in about 30 minutes. We just had to wait for paint to dry. I feel like I am always waiting for paint to dry! I did have to add a little extra foam to the seat but other than that it was in great shape, I lightly sanded then brushed the paint on. I love the back cutouts and all the details in the wooden legs.
She has been so excited about. It fits in pretty good with her CRAZY FLORESCENT PINK room- which BTW drives me a little crazy! I am trying to convince her to let me tone it down, no luck so far!
Anyway, is it weird that I am writing about my love for old chairs? Well, this one was a good find.
I'm sure my Aunts would be very proud of my little collection.

Um I'm not going to lie, I love that fabric on the chair! Way to go Carmen, glad you steered your mama away from the leopard for once! :)
