On Monday, April 7th 2014, I turned 30.
I woke up feeling like it was any other day, although I did immediately spot 3 shiny grey hairs as I looked in the mirror first thing- it was a sign!
I've been anxiously awaiting this day all year. Since January my husband has reminded me over and over how this year I would be turning the "Dirty 30!"(He liked to rub that in!) For some reason the thought of this has been pretty daunting. I remember thinking how far away thirty was- and now it's here.
I believe you are as young as you feel- age is just a number. Right?! I also believe that the only way we can progress is through experience and time. Ive got a lot to learn and hopefully plenty of time to make up for all the mistakes Ive made. I decided a few weeks ago that I wouldn't let the thought of being 30 make me feel lousy, instead I should be excited! I survived the 20's!
And I'm looking forward to the next stage in this life!
The Man went to great lengths on Monday to make sure I had a amazing birthday. He is amazing. He brought me flowers and spoiled me rotten. He planned a little surprise party with our close friends and family- at my parent's house. There was food and cake and lots of kids running around- my favorite. He also surprised me with a New Shiny Yellow Bike! (I've been wanting a cruiser for years, but because we have his "old mission bikes" I never could justify buying myself a bike!) I was thrilled, to say the least, and can't wait to take the kids on some rides.
(Ok, maybe the Bike wasn't a surprise, Miss Carmen spilled the beans a few days before my birthday- she even exposed the color!! But, I was still just as excited and surprised when I saw this beauty for the first time!) But the Party was a complete surprise- I did not know my sister was such a great liar?!
I also was able have lunch with my Dad and Sister (and our girls) at my favorite place, Gator Jacks in Rigby, and then we spent the rest of the afternoon at home enjoying the sunshine. My crazy friends plastered my front door with more "Dirty 30" goodness- which totally made my day. I mean a toilet walker and old used lingerie, what else does a woman need?!!
I'm so thankful for great friends and neighbors. I couldn't live in a better place.
Throughout the entire day I loved getting texts, Facebook messages, and phone calls from old and new friends- as well as family! I'm humbled at how many people take time out of their lives to recognize others on their birthdays, I need to do better at this- it really did mean a lot.
My mom made me a beautiful cake complete with 30 candles- Miss Amelia didn't know what to think of the singing and all that fire!! Im surprised the fire alarms didn't go off with all the smoke they caused!!!
My little family also took a little break over the weekend and went to Utah to help my Aunt with some Interior Design work. I was able to spend time with my Aunt LeeAnn -who I share my birthday with as well as who I am named after! And I loved staying up late talking with her and my cousins talking about anything and everything, and especially loved that I was able to help her out by making over her home office. It was also just nice to get away with my little family for a few days, not to mention it was also General Conference! I felt so refreshed afterwards and was ready to come home and dive back into life.
I must admit, as depressing as I thought this day would be, it was really one of the best days ever!
Age really is just a number- and I feel like I'm still 18!!
( I might act like it most of the time to!)

Welcome to the Dirty 30's baby! Um that walker and lingerie was hilarious! That's what I should have gotten you for sure!
Um I seriously have a problem, I can't find that gift card anywhere. Not only am I dumb, but I am pissed that I "wasted" that money if I lost the freaking card!
Thanks for letting me come to your party (good thing Randall was doing the invites and not you, or I wouldn't have been there...) it was fun and I can't wait to go for rides on our bikes together!
happy belated birthday, anna! it looks like you had a grand celebration with loved ones. welcome to our 3rd decade! in my mind, we are forever in middle school sliding around in the wintry slush with jenna webb-riding and the two of you in your ropers. love ya!
