A Wedding

My Mother-in-law, Cody,  was married on Saturday.
I know- surprise!!
It was a emotional day- in a good way, and also very very hot!

We have known for quite some time that they would be getting married, it has just been a question of when. David and Cody have been dating for over 5 years and they both have so much in common. Cody lost her husband, Mark, 8 years ago to cancer. David lost his wife, Susan, 6 years ago to cancer as well. In fact, their first date was to the cemetery to visit their spouses graves!! Isn't that cute. I think its sweet. Anyway, they both are from Rigby- in fact they are neighbors. David has 6 kids, and a set of twin girls. Cody has 4, and a set of twin boys. They have almost the same amount of Grandkids- so together the families are not very large!

Cody's kids and spouses.
Almost all of their combined Grandchildren.
Cody and Davids children.
David's family.
Cody's family.

David is patient. That might be one of my favorite things about him and that he is so good to Cody. At first it was a little hard, not because of anything David did- but just because it was so different to see her with someone else. But with time David fit right in and we love having him around. He makes her happy- so that makes us happy.

The Wedding was held at the Idaho Falls Temple. Since they are both Sealed Eternally to their first spouses they had a "Marriage for Time" ceremony in the Temple. I really didn't know there was such a thing. It was short and sweet and just the way Cody wanted it. Close family and friends came to celebrate and support her and David.

The Grandkids were especially excited to see Grandma come out of the Temple, that and just get to play together all day long. As for the Children- Randall and his siblings- they were emotional. It was to be expected. But I think they are all just happy to see Cody doing something for herself. She is a very giving person and always puts others first. Im happy that she will have a companion with her at all times now and someone who can have fun and learn and grow with. Im anxious for the future- excited to get to know David's family better and David himself. He is a great guy and very smart! It is going to be a great change for our family.

After all the pictures we met at Catered Your Way in Idaho Falls for a luncheon. The food was great and we were all exhausted when it was done, the kids especially.  It was a beautiful day spent with family and friends.

I think for me the thing that kept coming to my mind throughout this day was service. We are sent to this earth to love and serve each other. When we are alone we tend to only serve ourselves, it's only natural- we are not meant to be alone! We need to be able to serve those around us in order to learn how to really love and be loved. I truly believe that through love and service we can become more like Christ.
I am thankful for eternal families and I know that Mark would be happy knowing that David will love and serve Cody for the rest of this life- and vis versa for David's wife Susan. There is so much comfort in the Gospel, Families are Forever, there is no endings, only eternities.
I came home with a greater appreciation for my family, all of them. We are so blessed.
