This sweet little girl had a rough week.
We have known for about a month that she needed to have her tonsils and adenoids taken out, her little mouth was to small for her huge tonsils. Due to their size they were making it difficult for her to sleep, she had some seriously bad breath, and her breathing was strained. I kept putting it off due to the move and school- but it got to the point where we could no longer avoid it.
After we were told by 3 doctors that she needed them removed, we made the appointment. I struggled with the decision because her tonsils were not infected and she wasn't sick because of them. They were simply to big for her throat.
Wednesday morning we made it to the Doctors office bright and early. We were able to do the surgery in the Doctor office surgical center, which was SO nice! We didnt have to deal with all hospitals admissions, long wait times, or costs. It was so nice. Dr. Peterson did the procedure and it took about 45 minutes total. The nurses spoiled us and we were very comfortable.
Leighton went into surgery pretty sad and upset from the shot. Heart Breaker.
And She came out hysterical! The anesthesia made her crazy and she was screaming, whaling, crying, it was awful! It took her about a hour to calm down. Randall and I struggled to watch her and couldn't do much to help. It didn't help that seeing all the blood and smelling the terrible smells made me really sick. I had to run out of the room and throw up two separate times- and the entire building heard me! So embarrassing. (Randall was mortified!)
We finally were able to go home about 9:00am. Which was a lot earlier than we anticipated. The rest of the day was miserable. She wouldn't eat or drink anything- not even popsicles. She was in a lot of pain and fevering, and just when she would fall asleep she would start to throw up. Randall and I sat close to her all day and just tried to keep her comfortable, it really was terrible. I pretty much held her for two straight days.
The next few days were about the same, she had a hard time drinking and kept fevering on and off. By day 4 we finally felt like we had it under control and she started to drink and smile a little bit more.
Now- a week later- she is finally acting like herself. She still isn't eating solids very well and she still complains now and then about pain, but for the most part she is running around and back to her crazy self! The last few nights she has slept ok and her voice is slowing coming back.
I'm very thankful for modern medicine and we are all hoping that getting those big tonsils out will help her sleep and breath better. So far she seems to be doing much better!
